"Holiday in Tuscany"

"Holiday in Tuscany"
30” x 20”
Oil on Linen

When I got into my first Western Gallery, Mountain Trails Gallery in Park City, Utah, I assumed I would be painting mostly cowboys and western scene for them. They taught me never to assume anything; though they are very fond of my western scenes they also seem to like my still life paintings.

This is the latest one I took to the Gallery on my last trip out.

For the love of a Duck

"Spike"
10" x 8"
Wooden Box
I had the pleasure of painting this colorful image for one of my Gallery owners as a Christmas present to her Husband. It seems this duck hangs out where he works and he has grown rather attached to this animal he has lovingly named “Spike”.

I must say this one was wonderfully fun to paint!!

My New Best Friend

“It’s all about Max”
10” x 8”
Oil on Linen Panel

I have always had big dogs and never really spent that much time with small ones. Last March I went out to Salt Lake City to meet my new Family and gained an unexpected family member. Within about five minutes of arriving at their house this little fellow had me wrapped around his paw!
I was fortunate to catch this terrific shot of him while I was there and was able to paint it for Tom and Jan for their Christmas gift! I was so happy they were pleased, and I think Max was a bit proud of it to!
It is so much fun to paint something you love!!!!!

PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST

8" x 10"
Oil on Canvas Panel
This is my painting of; I have no idea, done as part of the DSFDF end of year challenge. What a great Blog for artist to participate in. I have been teaching for the last couple of years and I have recommended to my students they participate in the Different Strokes for different folks Challenges. I think it is a wonderful learning tool no matter what stage you are as an artist. Not to mention how it has grown my artist family, it is so great to have other artist to compare to, bat ideas off of or just help keep you motivated to struggle through an occasional artist block. My Thanks again to Karin Jurick for her efforts on this blog!

Lady and Maxx

"Lady and Maxx"
Oil on Canvas
30" x 40"
Sold
It’s funny how commissions can sometimes open doors.

Thanks to Bobbe Gillis Gallery in Atlanta I recently had the privilege of doing several large commission pieces that are now hanging in the Executive offices of The Delta Community Credit Union. This first one led me to find my new friends Palm Glades Lovely Lady and Palm Glades Mad Maxx.

Knowing nothing about Bird hunting myself I had the good fortune of finding Lane Hodges and his amazing German Shorthair Pointers. I am now in love with the breed. Both dogs having great accomplishments in field trials and are also amazing hunting/pet companions. Lady, not even a year old, took 2 first places at the GSP Club of South Georgia just a couple weeks ago, giving her a total of 3 first place and 1 third place ribbons in field trials. Go Lady!

It was wonderful having Lane’s expertise to authenticate the painting at every step. Lesson learned: when you know nothing about your subject matter it pays to associate yourself with someone who does. This will only be the first of many paintings of these amazing animals. I plan to be in the field with them next weekend; never thought I would be saying that!!
